Renewal Grace Period and Domain Deletion Policy

To Redeem a domain is time consuming, costly and a manual process. In general, the Redemption Grace Period is 30 days after the domain is Deleted; and during these 30 days, it is only the domain’s current Registrar that is allowed to Redeem the domain.

If the Registrar fails to Redeem the domain during this period, then the domain moves to Pending Delete status for 5 days period. In Pending Delete status, it is not allowed to Redeem the domain and post the 5 days period, the domain becomes available for fresh Registration.

Note

  • There is no Renewal Grace Period associated with a .EU domain. It expires on the 2nd last day of the month the domain is set to expire. If the Registrar fails to renew the domain, it is deleted on the very same day.

.EU domains have 40 days of Redemption Grace Period. Furthermore, .EU domains don’t have the Pending Delete period - the five day period that follows the Redemption Grace Period. The domain becomes available for fresh Registrations 40 days post deletion date.

  • Any website or emails associated with a .UK domain stop to resolve once the domain has expired.

A .UK domain can be renewed anytime from 6 months prior to Expiry, up to 90 days post Expiry. If a .UK domain is not renewed within 90 days post Expiry, it is automatically Deleted by the .UK Registry.

Please note, that there is no Redemption Grace Period associated with  a .UK domain.

  • There is a 45 days Redemption Grace Period for CentralNic domains. Centralnic domains comprise of below given domains:

.GB.COM, .EU.COM, .AE.ORG, .US.COM, .KR.COM, .QC.COM, .GB.NET, .DE.COM, .NO.COM, .JPN.COM, .HU.COM, .UY.COM, .BR.COM, .ZA.COM, .CN.COM, .SE.COM, .SA.COM, .SE.NET, .UK.NET, .UK.COM, .RU.COM.

  • Registry does not place a .WS domain under Redemption Grace Period upon Deletion. The domain becomes available for fresh Registration once it is Deleted.  Thus, it is not possible to Redeem a  .WS domain.
  • Registry does not place a .NAME domain under Redemption Grace Period upon Deletion. The domain becomes available for fresh Registration post 5 days Pending Delete period, during which the domain cannot be Redeemed.
  • A .TEL domain has a Redemption Grace Period of 30 days. If a .TEL domain is not redeemed during this Redemption Grace Period, it slips into Pending Delete period of 5 days. Post the Pending Delete period of 5 days, the domain would be placed on 60 days Delete Lockdown. Post this, the domain becomes available for Fresh Registration.
  • A .CN domain has a Redemption Grace Period of 15 days. Furthermore, .CN domains don’t have any Pending Delete period associated with them. The domain becomes available for fresh Registration after 15 days post the Deletion date.
  • There is no Renewal Grace Period associated with a .NZ domain. The domain is deleted post Expiry, if it is not renewed.

A .NZ domain has a Redemption Grace Period of 90 days. Furthermore, .NZ domains don’t have any Pending Delete period associated with them. The domain becomes available for fresh Registration after 90 days post the Deletion date.

  • A .CO domain has a Redemption Grace Period of 15 days. If a .CO domain is not restored, it would enter a 5 day period of Pending Delete status.
  • There is no Redemption Grace Period associated with a .WEB.IN domain, and it becomes available for Registration immediately post Deletion.
  • There is no Redemption Grace Period associated with a .DE domain, and it becomes available for Registration immediately post Deletion.
  • There is no Redemption Grace Period associated with a .ES domain, and it becomes available for Registration immediately post Deletion.
  • There is no Redemption Grace Period associated with a .AU domain, and it becomes available for Registration immediately post Deletion.

Note

  • It may take Gossimer up to 5 working days before it can Redeem a domain since Restoring or Redeeming a domain is quite a lengthy process.
  • Once a Restoration action is complete, it is not possible to reverse it. You wouldn’t have any option but to delete it in case you don’t require that particular domain any more.

Additional Information

How to Delete a Domain?

  • A year Renewal would be included in the domain only if it is Restored after it had been Deleted by the system after the Renewal Grace Period had expired. If the request for deletion of domain is made any time before its Expiry date, then one year Renewal would not be included in the Restoring of the domain.

However, a .CN domain always includes one year Renewal.

  • Restoring a .EU domain always includes one year Renewal. Domain’s new Expiry date will be set to be 1 year from what was its last expiration date was till the 2nd last day of the month it expires.

Example:

Suppose a domain has its Expiry date set as 30 Oct, 2010 and it is Restored on 15 Nov, 2010, its new Expiry date will be set to 30 Oct, 2011.
